Server Load Levels

Hello,
When I log into my cpanel and check my server stats I see that the load is at "7.79 (1 cpu)" with a red light blinking next to it.

I am new to this whole thing so what exactly does this mean?
Is it the server load in general, or of just MY site?
What level is critical?
Can this explain my slow site?
Lastly, how can I optimize to fix this issue?

I am sorry about the loads (ha!) of questions, I am just kind of worried, ya know?

The server load number is for the entire server, not just your site. 7.79 is on the high side. I believe the light turns red above a server load of 7.

If your site is loading slow the server load would be the reason.

Submit a ticket to have support check into it. I have a ticket in right now on high server load and not being able to access cpanel.

Jeff,

What's your domain name? Or ticket ID? I'll be sure to monitor this server for the rest of my shift to make sure the load remains within acceptable ranges.

Just let me know, or you can alert our support team @ http://desk.surpasshosting.com =)
