I have a cPanel question
Hello all! I have absolutely no problem accessing my cPanel (rock-kitty.net/cpanel) from my home computer, but when I try to acess it on the school computer I get the following error:
HTTP Error Status : 504 Gateway Time-Out Description : Unable to connect to origin Web server. Note : If necessary, please contact your Systems Administrator for resolution. Do you think it's some school security stuff that prevent me from accessing it? For instance we are not able to download .zip and .exe files. Or is it something with the server? I'm going to have a school project soon and I wanted to show what my cPanel looks like, but I can't seem to access it.... ![]() |

Here is some information on the subject. If you can't figure it out or don't get a faster response here try talking to your IT Department at work or contact Surpass
Error Message The "504 Gateway Timeout" error message can be customized by each website. While this isn't very common, keep in mind that this error may present itself in more ways than the common ones listed below: * "504: Gateway Timeout" * "HTTP Error 504 - Gateway Timeout" The 504 Gateway Timeout error displays inside the Internet browser window, just as web pages do. Cause The 504 Gateway Timeout error is an HTTP status code that means that one server did not receive a timely response from another server that it was accessing while attempting to load the web page or fill another request by the browser. This usually means that the other server is down or not working properly. Resolution The 504 Gateway Timeout error is usually a network error between servers on the Internet or an issue with an actual server, meaning the problem is not with your PC or Internet connection. Even though the issue is not yours to troubleshoot or resolve, there are a few things you can do: 1. Retry the web page by clicking the refresh/reload button or trying the URL from the address bar again. Even though the 504 Gateway Timeout error is reporting an error outside of your control, the error may only be temporary. Trying the page again will often be successful. 2. Come back later. Since the 504 Gateway Timeout error message is an issue with the web site's network or a server that it communicates with, everyone visiting this site is probably experiencing the same problem as you. Chances are an issue like that has already been brought to the attention of an administrator at the web site and someone is working to resolve it. |

Is the actual website having problems loading too or just the cpanel?
Also try accessing cpanel with the following two URLS: http://66.7.202.25:2082/ https://66.7.202.25:2083/ Do either of those work?

Thanks so much for the responses! I talked with the guy who's responsible for our school network/computers and he said it's most likely a security issue. He said that Firewall might block the port I'm trying to access and there's no way around it. I'll try the URLs above tomorrow at school, but I doubt they'll work.
Anyway, thanks so much! |

Yeah, I'm sure the school is blocking all non-standard ports. Hopefully they just are blocking certain ports which is why I gave you that alternate port 2083 because most probably don't block that one
Just make sure you use https:// when you're using 2083

When I go there it pops up asking me to accept the certificate. Normally if you don't accept the cert it will give you that site doesn't exist error. But when I do accept it, it prompts for user/pass.
If you're viewing from school they're probably blocking that port also.
