Yeah i'm positive it isn't the servers. Most image intensive sites such as yours with images THAT bit will always load slow no matter where they are hosted.

Surpass is a great company to deal with and that's why I'm still here.

yes I would resize the images to either 640x480 or 480x320 to speed your site up..

and yah use an online image hosting company, since they are wanting people to use them... why not...lol

large images like that can put serious stress on the server... for loading the site each time with big images, and since your on a shared server its enough to get ur site suspended if its causing serious issues.

just an fyi...

Why not create thumbnails and use those on the entry pages? Then you can use the href tag to link to the full-resolution images.

It took about 2 full minutes to load your site on my end, and that's with a relatively decent (6mbps) connection.

I get about the same time frame and I'm on a 15MB connection

A free tool - irfanview

can scan all your pics and make thumbnails for them en mass. Then you load the thumbnails and link them to the main pic, as was already suggested.

I agree with everyone else. Thumbs are the way to go. If you want to have higher resolution for viewing individual images, then you can try some effects like I did for one of my clients.

Click any image here (these are not as high a resolution, but you get the idea): Camp Discovery Gallery

Good Luck!

It's taking quite a long time for me as well. I've dealt with photography based sites before, and i realize that you want full-res images, but you have to make certain sacrifices for the web. Making thumbnails with links to the full sized image is an excellent idea.

The thumbnails can be created with Photoshop very easily (or you can use GIMP if you don't own a copy of PS). That way, the site will load up quickly, and your users will have access to the high resolution content that you wish to provide.

As far as flickr is concerned, it's a great way to have a sort of running profile of your work, especially if you're a professional photographer using dslr. I know that with their Pro Accounts, they allow you to store and organize very well at high resolutions. I've, personally, always used flickr to store and share photos on the web, however, i've never run a personal photo site.

hope this helps!

Yea, you should load the large res images to an offsite host, like Flickr or Photobucket and then create thumbnail previews for your website.
