AWStats - Pages/URL stats

pretty noob to sites etc. I can type into HTML but I don't know much else.

I was wondering (I tried to search, but didn't have much luck) what the difference between Viewed, Entry and Exit are under the Pages - URL section in Awstats?

example: I have many zip files for download on my site, what number accurately displays how many times it was actually downloaded? and what do the other titles entail?

Thanks
Gillian

The Viewed number is how many times the file was accessed or downloaded. The Entry number is how many times that file was the first file accessed or requested on your website from someone in a session. Typically you would expect to see / or index.* as having the highest entry number. The Exit number is how many times that was the last page or file someone accessed on your website during a session.

In my case, my serverload.php script which shows the image in my signature has the highest View, Entry, and Exit count.

So, use the viewed number for a count of how many times your zip files were downloaded.

Thanks! Something I thought after I posted, can a robot DL the zip/be counted in the "viewed"?? I was thinking of disabling the bots but if it could potentially take me out of search results I don't want to. lately I've seen a spike in some specific files downloading, but I think it has to do w/ a movie coming out on DVD that has songs in the files in it (and the songs are not currently available anywhere else that I'm aware, it's definitely not out on the band's cd, and we haven't found a soundtrack for the movie to be released). I'm all up for alot of people DLing the stuff, after all that's why I put it up (and luckily the traffic is/was still low enough I don't need to worry about running out of bandwidth) but if it turns out that bots are getting at the file, I may need to figure something to do...

If you notice at the top of the AWStats it has a traffic viewed and a traffic not viewed amount. It does not count views made by known bots.

Do the bots actually download non html files? Well, may be enough to confirm its existence but otherwise it would be a waste for them to download a 300K zipfile that's not going to lead them anywhere else. Other than bots that download images so they can cache them for image searches, many do not even download image files.
