Isn't it a security risk to have a wordpress install page up on a site that actually gets public hits? I'm not going to reinstall wordpress b/c I want my old database back, so just leaving it there isn't safe, is it?

No, it's better to either delete it, change the permissions to non-readable, or move it to a non-public directory.
