Explain what it means to have a hosting account.
In the world of websites, you have two things: domain name and your host. We can provide both for you. We will host all of your files on one of our servers so your site is served up at any time of day or night with fast speed. ________________________________________ Do I have to get a domain name with your company? I already have one with someone else. When you sign up for hosting, all you do is change the DNS of your existing domain name to our DNS and your domain will work. It doesn't matter where you got the domain, if you have control over it and can change the DNS, your site will work with us. ________________________________________ When I went to the site where I registered my domain, I did not see where I could change the DNS. Now what? If you registered it with a company that did not give you any kind of control panel or means to change anything (contact info, etc.) you have made a mistake. You can try to transfer it to us if the Admin contact is an email add. that you can check.________________________________________ How does the transfer process work? Below we will outline the step by step process on how the domain transfer process works. It will be to your benefit to move your domain to us [ www.surpassdomains.com ] because if you have an issue with changing your DNS, we can't assist you because we have no access to the domain. If the domain is with us, then we can login into admin and manage the domain at any time (whether you are hosting with us or not). 1. Go to www.surpassdomains.com (If you don't have an account, create one. You cannot login with your hosting username and password. Your domain account is seperate and will not be the same as your hosting username and password, unless you want it to be.) 2. PLEASE make sure that the admin contact's email address listed is current, active and accessible. If you are not sure what email adress is listed, go to http://www.surpassdomains.com/whois.php and do a look up on the domain. If this email you see is not active or accessible PLEASE go to where you originally registered the domain and update it. If you can't do it yourself, call them. If you can't make the change, then this transfer will not be possible. This is all done to protect anyone from just stealing domains away from others. The admin contact section of the domain record is very important. 3. Process the transfer, click Transfer on the top left at www.surpassdomains.com 4. Keep an eye on the email account (the admin contact's) and approve the transfer link in the email you receive from our company. 5. Once you have done that, we are just waiting on your current registrar to release it. You should get an email from your original registrar asking you if it's ok with you to move the domain to us. 6. After if it successfully transferred, you will be able to manage it from your domain control panel at www.surpassdomains.com which is a great tool we provide to you. We hope you like it. 7. If it has been over 48 hours and you approved the email and the domain is still not transferred to us, please contact your current registrar and ask them why they haven't released it. REMEMBER! The admin contact's email address must be one that you get access to and it must be active. If you don't get the email from us, send an email to we, we can process the domain transfer again. If you get the email from us, but not from the other company, please contact them and see what has occured. ________________________________________
