Automating FTP download and processing into SQL database

I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction, at least get me started. What I want to do is download from a ftp site a data text file. Then after downloading import that in to a MySQL database table and run a SQL script to update tables within a database. I want to be able to automatically repeat this process at a defined interval, hourly or whatever. Any help on getting started with this on a website would be great. ZenCart is the ultimate database I will be wanting to update tables within. Appreciate any insights and/or code that might help me get started and tinkering with my issue. Thanks.

If you can create a PERL or PHP script to do what you want, then you can set it up as a Cron job. Problem sorted
