    Rolling out PHP5 : May

    Shared/Reseller:
All newly launched servers (SHx and Passx) will have PHP4 and 5 compiled beginning in the middle of May. We do not have an exact date yet but this is the general timeframe. We will also start compiling PHP5 on all previous servers at that time. This basically means that you will be able to use both versions on any of our shared/reseller servers within a three-month period after we initiate the first installs.*

    VPS:
Currently our VPS orders already have this configuration upon setup.

    Dedicated:
We will do this same configuration for new dedicated server orders, but only on CentOS/cPanel servers by default.

*We will post a schedule at that time detailing when each older server will receive the new configuration. (We cannot honor any requests to be moved to a new server since the server you are on presently will receive the new configuration within 60 days of the initial announcements.)

    6/2
The PHP5 implementation schedule is as follows:

how do you intend to differentiate between the two types of scripts? some sort of shebang? seems complicated. or just different file extensions, such as .php5? a throwback to the old php3 lol

I presume it will work like this? :
    • .php uses PHP4
      .php5 uses php5

Can we get a timetable of when each server is supposed to be upgraded? I'm looking forward to moving my sites back to Surpass...

    ^ Existing servers

New: Around the middle of May new servers that are launched will have this configuration and it will be announced here which exact server is the first one.

Correct, PHP will be version 4 by default as it has been. But you can use .php5 as the extension for any single file you want parsed with PHP5.

    • If you would like all of your .php pages to parse as PHP5 exclusively, you just add a line to your .htaccess file:
    AddHandler application/x-httpd-php5 .php
By the end of July, all of our servers will be completely standardized, all using phpsuexec and all with PHP4 and PHP5.

There are going to be some other rules since we want to run phpsuexec on PHP4 and PHP5.. so there are going to be some exceptions and more notes on .htaccess vs. php.ini, we will have these up by Wednesday because we are currently still testing our options. This is partly why we did not immediately start offering this configuration. We have certain features implemented that improve our services that other hosts do not think of or are aware of. For us, it's not a matter of just easily flipping on a switch, so to speak.
