localhost is correct. Database hostname should always be that. The problem lies elsewhere my friend.

This is what it says after you have entered your details:

To finalize the installation all you need to do is to copy and paste the text in the text box below into a file called config.php and then upload this file to the root directory of your PunBB installation. Make sure there are no linebreaks or spaces before <?php and after ?> in the file. You can later edit config.php if you reconfigure your setup (e.g. change the database password or ).

I made the config 444 too as you suggested earlier

Hmm. This is odd. With situations like this, when it's a new board, I always just scrap it and start over. This way, if I missed something to begin with, I generally come across it and do it right the next time.

I have tried that a few times now and still encounter the same problem. the only reason I can think it could be is a problem with the database.... but i don't know if that would make the forum not appear.

Nobody has replied to my post on the PunBB board so thats helpful

back to the drawing board me thinks. maybe i should try using a different forum program......

yeah i too like the PunBB, i prefer the look of it and i've heard its easier to modify too..... it may just be my lack of knowledge on webdesign thats causing this problem but to be honest its doing my head in now!!! I was hoping it to work first time but no such luck

Thanks Mikespe!!!

After trying my hardest to get PunBB to work i decided to have a look at IntegraMOD and, well, WOW! i am really impressed! it looks cool, had very good intructions on how to install and is easy enough for a complete novice like me to sort out so thanks for posting!
