Hacking websites may be childish, but it depends on what they do afterwards. Many hackers, or crackers as they are actually called, will break into your site and not do anything other than do something to show they were there...put up a page, change some data, something like that. And if you ask them, they will show you how they did it so you can fix your stuff.

Usually it's just to exploit your site and warn you from the more serious hackers there to defame or abuse the site.
