Thank you (!) for all these instructions.
What does the following mean?: "Be sure to enable SMTP Authentication in your E-mail client or you may not be able to send mail. The outgoing mail server requires authentication." I work on a Mac and don't use Outlook Express. I really appreciate your patience. lc63 |

I'm not sure if I'm understanding the context. I would assume it's referring to the resident mail service that connects to whatever mail accounts you have defined. I know in Outlook/Outlook Express, this is one of the settings on the panel. If you are just using webmail. I'm not sure you have to worry about it. Let me wait to see if one of the "professionals can answer it better".
P.S. You're welcome.

As Jeanie said, this option is irrelevant for any of the webmail options (Horde, SquirrelMail or NeoMail) but in order for some email programs to work, you need to check the option that enables SMTP authentication.
If you are using a mail program, set up your account in your mail program, test to see if it works and if it does, don't worry about it. If however you can't send mail, go into the options and make sure the SMTP authentication option is enabled. If you still can't send email, then your ISP may not allow outbound mail on your own server (this is increasingly common) and you will need to use your ISP's SMTP server. They will provide that info on request. Again, if only using webmail, ignore above. ![]() (Edit: typos)
