Unhappy Switching over to Surpass *Crossed Eyes*

I have setup a few sites on Surpass.. (but from the ground up) - I am attempting to TRANSFER a site.. and, it has become the transfer from hell!

Homestead is/was hosting
Customer wanted to leave but keep domain name
I registered with Surpass
I requested to transfer the domain

Homestead said I had to use a 3rd party and the client owed 24.00 so they wouldn't transfer

Customer paid 24.00 - and, now when I request the transfer - Surpass wants another 15.00

Mu customer has no home.

What is it I am missing here?

Help me soon.. I have pulled out almost all of my hair.. and, it is not a pretty picture!

Thanks!

15 is a typical charge for transfering a domain, regardless of what ever other fees that your friend/client owed the prior host.

But the good news is that you dont HAVE to transfer a domain until 90 days before it expires, if you don't want to.

who is the domain registered with now? what is the domain name?

More Info.. thanks so much!

I think the frustration is more that I thought I did everything I needed to do.. but, I can't seem to get it moved.

The domain on Homestead that I want to move (and, their bill is paid so Homestead says the account is closed and *can* move) is:

www.lathropchamber.org

Now it says it is disabled.. I paid the 15.00 fee to have Surpass transfer it.. then Homestead told Surpass since it is an "org" a 3rd party has to move it...

So.. now.. I feel like I am just "caught" somewhere in na-na land.

Does this give you more insight?

Recap:

lathropchamber.org contracted us to rebuild their site.. we did.

We loaded it on Homestead and it ran fine.

They expired with Homestead (not the domain name - but, their account with Homestead) - they wanted to move from Homestead to Surpass - less costs more advantages.

Since they expired.. Homestead put up "disabled message".

We registered hosting for them with Surpass - and went to move them.

They said.. you owe 24.00 - you can't move them - client paid the 24.00 and now Homestead says - okay.. you can move.

We initiate the transfer - Surpass says.. 15.00.. which I know can't be right..

*pitiful sigh while hanging my head*

I could use some of that homemade beer about now..

*Smiles*

Contact Surpass - .org can be moved by anyone, homestead is smoking crack. It's being done at your request. You can have the owner of the domain write up a letter authorizing it on their letterhead too and fax a copy to both surpass and homestead - that solves all your "authorization" problems.

The domain shows as being reserved at homestead, so they are the current registrar I would guess. And the whois record shows some hotmail address for the administrator.

What I would say is immediatly contact homestead, tell them to point the domain to YOUR surpass DNS servers. Once that is done, surpass will be the "home" of the domain. This is a temporary fix until the transfer happens. When the transfer happens you will have to go to your surpass domains control panel and change the DNS there. If you don't the domain will "disappear" for a short time, until this is done.

Generally when you transfer a domain name it works in this way (Short version)
1.You order a transfer and pay for it.
2 a.You unlock the domain in the Domain Control Panel at you registrar.
2 b.You get an email from you registrar to accept the transfer. OR
2 c. You registrar get an email to accept the transfer.
3. You accept the transfer at your new registrar.

If homestead have their setup like 2c they most accept the transfer. You may contact them and ask them about this.
