It is important to note, that a little bit of overselling is done by every hosting company out there. Otherwise, it would not be financially secure, to put maybe 10 clients on a server.

wow, this sounds exactly like my own problem. i was told my site was "the top site" on the list on the server using resources. i currently have FIFTY TWO users. there was never more than 15 on at one time.
in a list of sites on a server, SOMEONE has to be at the top, right? so is it normal for surpass to just suspend whichever site happens to be at the top at the time to "resolve" the issue? and then they try to sell you a dedicated server, all the while not allowing you to access anything to try and fix the problem? |

Ok that explains a lot, same just happened to me.
And of course I got the "Would you like it if other people overloaded your server and we wouldn't suspend them"-lecture |

Cats, I think you are confusing everyone here. Now the explanation I wrote out last night is looking a bit pointless on my side.
Overselling is when a company puts 300 accounts on a server or so. That server is bogged down simply over normal processes on the server and can barely function, and no site is really the cause of the problems. That is how most people look at it. We put 150 accounts on shared servers and that is way below industry standard. As far as the other type of overselling which is what I think Cats is really talking about, it's about our hosting plans themselves that have so much bandwidth and space. However, bandwidth and space have *nothing* to do with suspending a site because it is using more _memory_ and _cpu_ than all other sites on the server. Some sites outgrow a shared server. It's a simple fact. Some are too active to stay on a server with a certain number of accounts. That is again, the best way I can explain it. |

Basically it comes down to this. Some servers have accounts that need to be moved. They can't continue to stay on that server. We can either let them stay and let the server get bogged down at different times of the day and have that very same customer complain about it, other customers complain and also cancel. Or we can try to solve the problem. We get attacked either way. |
