No sorry mr.fern, I wasnt clear in my post.. The text I will ne edited out is the text that says 'this board has been disactivated'.. in other owrds I will be adding in there the text I want.. something like " this forum is closed for summer break".. or watever I wanna add in there.. I will not disturb at all the functions of the forum in anyway. Do you get what im saying now? Then once I deactivate the board the members will see a more friendly message.. I will also put in there the time and, date when the forum will re-open..

ok, bye now

Oh well yea, in that case, disabling the board you'll still have access to the admin panel

When I opened a board on a personal site about 2 years ago, I had disabled the board, but I could still get into the admin panel.

phpmyadmin's one of my good friends

I often use it to edit things my site's code can't directly do (since I never wrote it to do those things )

Only trouble is, who knows what kind of updates will follow during the summer. There may be a bunch of those "update to this, and then this, before going to this, and then this..." type of updates. I hate those. I find it easier to just keep doing them in line.

It's good to optimize your tables occassionally. That's easy enough. Just click the select all button, and chose Optimize.

Not Drop. Definetly not drop lol.

Nope, no crap should build up in there.

And yeah you should be able to run updates even if you have the forum set to deactivated

you only really need to do optimizing on tables that get lots of deletes.
