new person with questions regarding DNS

Hi,

I was going to post this in the DNS section but since I am new I figured I would post it here.

My site (yet to be built) is hosted here at surpass. I am doing some work for a friend and convinced him to have his site hosted here at surpass as well.

My friend has all of his domains registered with dotster but his hosting account is here. The original name of the site was going to be therecordpimp.com so when my friend set up his hosting account I went to dotster and changed the DNS so therecordpimp.com pointed to his account here at surpass. This worked fine.

My friend has had a falling out with his business partner on therecordpimp project and the name of the site is now going to be joekopasek.com. This domain is also registered at dotster and this morning I updated the name server info so joekopasek.com will point to his surpass hosting account. I just received confirmation on the nameserver update and am waiting for it to become active.

We are waiting for my friends former partner to transfer therecordpimp.com domain to his name and his server but in the meantime it seems that two domains will be pointing to our server space here at surpass, therecordpimp.com and joekopasek.com

Is this going to be a problem for us? Is there any action I should take in the meantime, such as updating therecordpimp to point at a fictitious server?

I hope that I have not completely confused everyone with my long winded question, but in short currently 2 domains point to our surpass account. We want to drop the old one and only use the new one. Have I done everything right and is there anything else I need to do?

Thanks in advance,

jimmy smutek

Ok, I just read through some of the threads here. I would have searched first but I am not able to correctly iterate what i am trying to say.

I would rather not use an add-on domain, at the moment recordpimp.com is our primary domain, we would like to change this to joekopasek.com and completely drop any reference to recordpimp on our server. How do we go about doing this?

In the mean time I will go about my own research and hopefully will find the answer.

My guess would be that it is possible to change domain names, but you'll want to contact support. I do not know if there's a charge for that.

Hey, thanks for the response. I just got it sorted. It is something I had to submit a ticket for but since our account is less than 30 days old there is no charge. I have to say I am impressed, support got back to me within about a half hour.

Glad to know that you've got this sorted out. As you discovered, accounts under 30 days have this service for free, but if your account is older then that it costs $15 to change your main domain.

Welcome to Surpass, hope you have a good stay!
