I'm an idiot

I think of myself as being reasonably computer literate, but I am completely at sea

I've bought hosting from this site and a domain name from a different site. I've written my site in ye olde HTML and I'm ready to go. I haven't got a flipping clue how to proceed.

I picked up on the DNS thing and went to 'manage DNS' on the site where I've got my domain, and it said 'only modify the fields in the page if you are a DNS expert'. I am far from that so I slunk away, tail between my legs.

I need a website guardian angel. If you live in London I'll buy you beers, if not you'll have to settle for my slavish gratitude.

Don't worry about the DNS pages, they like to scare you. And if you break it, we can always help you fix it! Just use the nameservers that were included in your welcome email.

You're right that first you have to modify your DNS, so that your domain will point to your hosting.

After that, you need to upload your website. Easiest way to do that is to download an FTP program (such as Smart FTP) and install that onto your computer. To log into your hosting, use the IP address for the server address, and then your cPanel username and password for your login. Upload all files into the public_html folder, and it'll be alllll good!

If you need any more help, just ask. You're not an idiot, it just can be rather intimidating at first.

It's so kind of you to try and help me... and I still don't understand a word.

I've opened the manage DNS page in my domain site, and it's talking about A, CNAME and TXT records. Am I even in the right place?

Gah! I just want a button that says 'upload your site here'.

Who is your domain name registered with? - might be able to walk you through it.

Ahh - sorry - no personal knowledge there. There should be two fields for entering the name server names. Usally labeled Name Server 1 and Name Server 2. All you want to do is change the fields to the names given in your email. No other modifications should be needed.

Here is a video that will walk you through the process step by step - Watch this and it should be really easy. It is for your domain registrar.

Let me know if this works for you!

Are those entries... ie ns988.dizinc.com A, CNAME or TXT records. It's totally unclear. I'm rapidly deciding my domain name site is rubbish.

Someone else may need to jump in here but in general it would be the A record

And what goes in there, the ns988.dizinc.com or the IP address that's next to it?
