Hello, I just signed up for a new (deluxe) account today and have a question about my email. I already have a webhosting service that I'm switching from over to you guys. I still have it up and running and have not changed the DNS on my domain name yet. I followed all of the instructions for the "seamless" move, but wanted to clear this up first. I uploaded my site to my surpass account and can see it by going to the IP address given to me. So according to what I have read, if I change the DNS on my domain name, within 72 hours my site will go from my old webhost to this new one, correct? My question is about my email addresses. I have 3 or 4 email addresses associated through the other webhost, when I change the DNS on my domain, will the email switch over immediately, or will there be a break in service? I've already set up the email accounts in my cpanel, so I'm thinking that there won't be a break, but I wanted to make sure. I hope that is a clear enough question. Thank you for your time.

The DNS can take anywhere from 24-72+ hours to propagate. Varies widely.
The email will have a break in service, but there is a semi workable solution. Before you change the DNS, get the IP address of the server you are on now, and in your current email account settings, try replacing the mail.yourdomain.com with that IP address and see if you can check it. If you are using webmail to access your email, then you should be able to use the IP address to access your site. This may not work with some other hosting companies. If you can check your email with the IP address only, then you can setup two email accounts. One for the IP address of your old host, and one for the IP of the new host. That way you will catch all email that gets sent to your email addy.

I personally always use the IP, whether I move or plan to be on a server for 5 years or not.

By the way--I've switched the DNS on my domain to my Surpass DNS, but my original email settings (mail.yourdomain.com) still work.

Well, there are pros and cons to using the IP addy. Either way should be fine in 95% of the cases. The real only advantage of the domain is it is easier to remember than a bunch of numbers.
Your email settings will work for some time whie the DNS propogates. That's why I told you to check both accounts in the mean time. Some email will get sent to the new address, and some to the old address until the DNS is completed.
