Unhappy

I am the owner of a web design company that has been in the business over 10 years. We added hosting to our services maybe 5 years ago and since then we have been though at least 5 hosting companies. Every year it seems we are reminded why we never we going to get into the hosting business. This year has been the worst. We don't have many clients, maybe 50 tops, that don't get a lot of traffic but we are cursed with high prices or crappy support.

I am writing this in the middle of turmoil in which our reseller account has been down for the past 16 no ... 18 hours and I have received no message from our current host. They have only email support, no phone number (the phone number in their whois is only a voicemail), and our clients are starting to call our office wondering why their domains are down.

I am looking around for a new host that provides the same services (Cpanel, custom nameserver, WHM, Fantastico etc) at around the same price (we pay $35 a month for 40gig bandwidth and 4gigs of space) and same OS so our clients don't have to make too many changes as to how their email or paths are setup.

I have been through small companies, medium companies, large companies, and now I'm at my wits end. I heard about Surpass from a friend and I'm looking to move over.

How's the customer service over here? :ask:

We wouldn't leave a server down that long. Something is fishy with that.

E
techrev, I, too am a newcomer to surpasshosting. Just a little over a month. But not as a reseller.

I consider the customer service to be excellent, no, outstanding!!

The customer care rep I dealt with (several times)really did care!

If I was a reseller, I would have no qualms about hosting here.

There are other unsolicited testimonials on this forum.

Surpass Hosting is a great host however if you want the best, tech support wise, I'd go with Myacen. They're a bit more pricey but their tech support far exceeded any host I've ever been on, you'll get very quick responses, probably always less than an hour. As a matter of fact, my last support ticket with them, about leaving, was summed up in seven minutes!

You can check out their reseller plans here.
http://myacen.com/resellers.html

There's also Web Hosting Buzz, I know someone who's hosted there and is quite happy; I don't think the tech response is very quick though.
http://www.webhostingbuzz.com/

Just don't rush into any hosting plan, make a list of the things you want the most from your host and carefully go out and look for hosts that offer those things, and then just pick the best one from the lot.

Here's a summed up description for three good hosts, hope it's of help.

Surpass Hosting
Good plans, that offer a lot for a reasonable price. Friendly tech support, always professional, and even willing to help out on the mundane things that don't even relate to the hosting such as configuring Microsoft Word. Despite all these great things you'll still have to wait a few or more hours for a response. Is it worth it? You decide.

Myacen
Has been in the hosting business for a while and know their way around, you'll get quick responses to all support questions (related only to hosting, no MSWord here,) and their plans though not unbelievably cheap are better than many competitors. They also tout a 100% up time and have backups. They're not as nice and cheap but could a possible 100% uptime and quick responses be the winning factors? Your choice.

Web Hosting Buzz
I've never been hosted with them but I've heard they are nice and care about their customers. Are they worth looking further into? Who knows, but a few minutes of searching could save you several months of agony and switching hosts again.

So there you have it, all great hosts, the only way you could go wrong is if perhaps by chance no host is perfect.

... And I just realized that that guy's question is nearly a month old and no longer relevant! Bah! Why did I waist my time…

...Yes, I realized that the original post was almost a month old --- after I wrote my testimonial.

Perhaps another prospective client will see these posts, and our valuable time is not wasted.

Joseph,

Why are you recommending another company in our pre sales forum? :o
First time I've seen this. At least you are being honest.

You are right that Myacen has been around a while, but we are approaching 2 years and we will only get better as well.
That's just what I think.. and I've been here surpassin' it up (working) a year only. And probably forever. I love it here. :bawling:

Umm, 100% uptime is IMPOSSIBLE. It is a quest of every server administrator in webhosting and other applications alike to have a 100% uptime. I myself would never sign up with a company that says they have a 100% uptime. That is nothing but a complete lie, and I couldn't do business with a company that would lie about something like that to the general public for simple marketing reasons. And yes, we do have backups...

I am not trying to knock your post Joseph, I just had to throw in my two cents worth here. When I saw that 100% I cringed...

You didn't waste any time on this. At least not in my opinion. Your post is very insightful and helpful, and could be of great use to future users.

Actually their website says 99.9% and that really is far fetched.. everyone who claims that should really be claiming 99.5% to be honest to themselves and their clients.
Any network is going to have at least 1 or 2 incidents during 1 year. Whether it last 5 minutes or 1 hour. It's the Internet, a complex organism that is not perfect.

Hehe... we have more members in our forum then they do. Members: 1,639,
Hehehehe. And we've only had a forum since May 1, 2003.

Sorry. :jester:
