vti folders?
New user. First question
![]() I see in my public folder a bunch of folders that start with _vti_ and I would like to know what they are for or why they are there? Yes, you guessed it. I am one of those people that doesn't like clutter and I like to delete things I don't need or use. But hey, at least I ask first. Could be worse ![]() |

I am the same way - those folders are there for FrontPage.. which I assume you probably do not use. But they are there just in case. You can delete them.
If you have any trouble deleting them.. which has been known to happen, support can do it for you.

Ah, I actually use Metapad. Useful for debugging certain lines.. and changing the colors of the font and background. :-x

Shh. Some still use it.
Although.. servers do not enjoy it very much.. and sometimes have issues because of it.

Before you delete the folders, make sure to go into your cPanel to "Frontpage Extensions" and make sure they are not installed for your main domain or any subdomains.
This is also a strange side-effect: Installing or uninstalling FrontPage Extensions will result in the loss of all .htaccess files in your web area. Any directories you have protected with WebProtect will become unprotected until you reprotect them. So you will need to backup your .htaccess file and upload again, and take note of what you have used with WebProtect. I have personally not tested this myself, and it may not even remove the settings on protected directories..

In cPanel --> Front Page Extentions --> uninstall FrontPage extentions and while there click the "cleanup old extentions" button.
