Installing phpBB

I want to install a phpBB forum.

I created a folder in my public html folder, then uploaded the zip and unzipped it. I clicked on the pathname of the unzipped folder and got the installation startup process. It asked me for the name of my database.

How do I go about this? Should I just go to my cpanal, click on "MySQL databases", and create a new database?

A much simpler way to do this is to click on the "Bulletin Board" option in your cPanel and install from there. cPanel will take care of creating the directories (delete the one you already created) as well as the databases. (Alternatively, you can use Fantastico to do the same thing.)

Ah, but installing manually is so much better, and you don't have to deal with Fantastico troubles...

David's got a tutorial on his site: http://www.ninehours.com/tutorials/4/

I agree re. Fantastico (which is why I stated it as an alternative only) but I've found that installing via cPanel is as good as a manual installation. Just my opinion...

Yes Create a new database and create and ad a user to it (or add a old user to it) Then if you need to in config.php ad your database, user and password ( if the installer does not do it for you)
