Suspension Period?
Hi,
My shared hosting account was suspended due to cgi/php overload. I'm really confused about how to go about fixing it. I've been looking around the site, and I can't seem to find anything about suspensions. Is it that my account will be suspended for a certain amount of time and then they'll give me a chance to remove the script? If it is, does anyone know how long the suspension would be? Thanks~ |

No, its not like you are in school or something, a suspension isnt intended to punish the customer, but rather stop *something* negative that they or a script they have in place are doing.
contact support to resolve the issue. |

What box are you on?
Do you still have FTP access so you can try and remove a script?

I've tried emailing both support
surpasshosting.com and abuse surpasshosting.com but I just get errors saying that the messages could not be delivered. Would you happen to know the email adress that I should email?I've also answered to the ticket that they opened for me in the help desk, but it's been hours and nobody has replied. How do I find out what box I'm on? Ftp won't connect >.> Last edited by Chirasu; August 3rd, 2006 at 3:06 PM. |

I was finally notified that some of my content was causing too much strain on the server.
3 items were mentioned and I was puzzled to see that one of them was a static 3kbyte jpg causing high httpd usage: /images/now_thumb.jpg?random98295 I can be without all 3 items but I don't understand how small static content can overload a web server (unless a DDOS was coordinated by a person). The random bit after the ? was to avoid caching until I figured out Apache caching directives. There was nothing dynamic going on, nor was the JPG extension mapped to any scripts extensions. Until now support has been excellent, always resolving any technical issue within 30 minutes. This issue has however taken 2 days :-( I was offered to upgrade to a dedicated server but I cannot justify those costs for a personal home page and I'd rather look for another shared hosting provider.

very odd that your site - being a 'personal family' website would do that. I wonder if perhaps someone did not co-opt a script you were running.

It is running a (static) Movable Type blog about my geeky life and after some more research it seems that the track back CGI script of MT can be a resource hog.
The annoying thing is that I don't get any valid track backs on my blog so I have stopped looking at it but I know it gets hammered by spamming bots. An advise to other MT users, disable track-backs! It is all in the merciful hands of Surpass. It would be fairly easy for me to remove the offending CGI script but I would not know how to limit the resource hog created by the static JPG. I have requested a back-up or access to FTP. It would be very tragic but if the matter cannot be resolved I will be forced to move.
