Question Anti Virus

Hi!!

I have few questions related to Virus/Anti Virus Software and protection against hackers.

* Do we need to install an Anti Virus Software or run a virus scan on the server on a regular basis?

* Does the hosting plan come along with an Anti Virus software to check for virus on the server?

* What are the precautionery measures against hackers?

* Which is the best anti Virus software the I need to buy/install on the server if required.

There are virus protocols in the EXIM email daemon. That's the only protection that I'm aware of, unless they're running scans of the file system on the server as a whole from ROOT.

Best protection against hackers is to ensure that your scripts are current.

I'm not sure which hosting plan you are asking about. As a dedicated server customer, you can install whatever you want to scan your machine, so long as it adhears to the TOS/AUP. There is an option to scan for Trojans, but it like anything else is going to be resource intensive. I rarely run it on my own.

As BigJohn said, keep your scripts up to date and make sure all your software you are running is updated.

I'm a reseller with the Surpass Reseller Plan - Package Ordered: Surpass.

Would this info help us to narrow down on some solution.

The only protection provided to you is the email scanner from Exim (ClamAV, I believe).

So, the issue is that you're responsible to ensure that any scripts are current, and any files that you wish to exchange are scanned - usually before you post them or after you download them.

Roger that!!

ok thanx john.

also I want you to tell me if I can buy an antivirus software and install it on a server or not. Just to make sure that the server is clean and protection from future threats.

Dont worry that would be my last question in regards to this topic

Appreciate your quick response.

Thank you.

You can do that with a Dedicated or VPS server but can't install such on a shared/reseller account that I am aware of. Just do as stated above about keeping your scripts up to date and keep a close eye on things.

These are managed servers with Surpass BTW

Skip got it right... you cannot install anything like that on your shared or reseller.
