Exclamation Server not found

It must be a silly question . . . but I thought all it takes to put an initial work-in-progress page up is to create a file called "index.html" in the public_html folder.

I've created a plain text file for this purpose, but when I entered the URL "www.gamgingparents.org", I still get the "Server not found" error message.

In addition, when I tried logging onto the FTP server, my access was denied. I am able to login to the cPanel though.

Any help and suggestion is greatly appreciated.

Where did you register your domain. A whois lookup is showing:

Where? I registered it via SurpassHosting.

I signed up for the account on August 20th. I have access to my cPanel, but not the FTP account.

There are 2 steps: (1) getting the domain name, and (2) getting the hosting package.

They can be bought separate or as a package. Review your order invoices and if you indeed bought them together send a ticket to sales via the ticket system at desk.surpasshosting.com and find out the registration status.

You can access the control panel and FTP by using the IP# and username, because it is setup.

I did, and the file is successfully uploaded. However, I cannot access it via "www.gamingparents.org", "www.gamingparents.org/index.html", or "www.gamingparents.org/public_html/index.html". I double-checked the permission of the file, and everyone should be able to read it (public cannot write - 4). I know the system is case-sensitive, and all my namefiles are in small case.

I paid $6 for the hosting per month, and $15 for the domain name registration. Here is the email about my account info:

-----
ACCOUNT INFORMATION:
====================
Plan: Power
Domain: gamingparents.org
IP Address: 66.7.194.211

Yes, it's indeed strange. I have already submitted a ticket to support.

Your file is there and is accessable by using: http://66.7.194.211/~gamingpa/

Registration takes time and then even more time for all ISP's to get the new name information. Kinda like directory assistance with the telephone. On the internet everything is done by numbers, so when we type in a URL it is first identified by a nameserver which passes along the IP number.

With your FTP client use 66.7.194.221 instead of ftp.gamingparents.org and gamingpa as the username .

Allow 72 hours before the panic.

Did you set the name servers or did you ask Surpass to do it for you since you got the domain through them?
