Email During Domain Switch Over
Hi,
I have shared hosting and moved a domain from old hosting to my surpass account. Before changing the dns with the regsitrar, I set up email accounts on surpass to match the prior host. I then change the dns servers with the registrar and am awaiting full propogation. What is happening is this: 1. incoming email is beginning to go to the surpass server (so dns must be updating somewhere) 2. if we try to retrieve mail with mail.domainname.com we get an error because it apparently has not switched locally yet. 3. we can check email via web mail by using ip.ip.ip.ip:2095 and signing in with full username and password Is there a "backdoor" way to check with an email program in the interim, for example: mail.ip.ip.ip.ip:2095/~username or something of that nature? Thanks |

Just go into your mail program and change mail.domain.com to ip.ip.ip.ip and you should be all set. Then after your DNS updates fully - you can switch it back (but you don't need to).
