I just signed up and have a tiny question

Hi everyone!

I just signed up with Surpass today and I have a few questions or things I am unsure about.

So, first of all, this is the first time I bought hosting from an international provider. I live in Europe, Belgium and I prefered dutch companies because that's the easiest way, of course. But dutch companies aren't only expensive, but also not always that good. (and the good ones are way too expensive, as I said)

I own two websites at the moment. One of them, my blog, will stay on its current host for a while because it only expires in August. I will add that as an add-on domain later.
The other one (my 'trash' domain, to call it like that) hosts a message board (on a subdomain) and a lot of unnecessary junk. I won't keep that domain and it expires in June. I'm going to buy a domain for the message board and also add it as an add-on domain.

I've been thinking of buying hosting at Surpass for a while and because of the $1 thing, I thought it might be interesting to buy hosting now, so I did. I bought the 'Power' Shared plan, without a domainname. I bought a new .be domainname at a dutch registrar and I will update the nameservers only.

Now, the thing I'm unsure about is this:

I have read a lot of manuals and threads about how to add an add-on domain etc., but what exactly is the procedure to add the main domain to the hosting account? Will I get an url (so, without the domainname) where I can login to cpanel and so on? Can somebody explain that all to me?

This is a long thread for such a small question but I might add questions in the future, when everything is activated and when I'm figuring things out. The background information above can be helpful to know my "situation" or something.

I hope everything will work fine for me and I won't need to change hosts for the next few years.

Thanks in advance!

I hope I've understood what you are asking properly....

When you get the welcome email, it will contain a username, password and your IP address, also you will get information about which nameservers you can use.

You can log into your cpanel by using that IP address followed by /cpanel or the ip address followed by :2082 and use your username and password as your login details.

In cpanel there is an option for addon domains, it's just a few simple lines to fill in:

New Domain Name:
Username/directory/subdomain Name:
Password:

I hope thats what you were after.

I'll wait for the welcome mail with my account information and try everything you said. Thanks!

Are there also any specific things I need to know when starting everything? Like, little things which are frequently asked, or, which are essential to know?

Well I'm a new user myself, and everything was simple to setup really, so I shouldn't imagine you'll have many problems with having had your own sites already on different hosting. There is a knowledgebase on the helpdesk site though, and it covers most all of the basics you're likely to need.

I have one issue about the payment.
My father is going to do that because I don't have American Express or Visa, but I'm not sure how it works. Am I supposed to get a bill with all the exact information on it? For example in an Adobe acrobat reader file or such thing? Because, I don't know how American Express works and I'm sure my dad isn't about to spend the whole day figuring out how to pay, if you know what I mean...

Should I see/print something from my login on surpasshosting.com? I really don't know what to do right now.

Just have him login at https://client.surpasshosting.com/billing/ with the username & password contained in the welcome mail. Click on the invoice number and he will have the option to pay by entering his name, credit card number, and CVV # on the back of the card online. Takes about 2 minutes.

Thanks!

My account is also activated now, the $1.00 fee is paid and I'm ready to start!

http://66.7.202.21/ If I upload index.htm in the public_html folder, it also shows that page instead of my index.htm. Or should I wait until my domain is pointed to the nameservers?

The IP address is shared amongst several users, that page is a default, to get it to show your own index.htm/l you would have to use the IP address followed by your username in the form of http://66.7.202.21/~username where username is the name you sign into cPanel with, some people don't like their username to be public for security reasons though, so you may want to wait for the DNS to propagate before showing the world your new site.

I think I understand. I'll just wait for my domain to point at it! Thanks!
