what are these?

when i navigate to my www folder, there is a list of things, such as _private/, cgi-bin/, etc...what the heck are they? also. when i use an ftp client to access the www folder, there are a lot more things in the folder. what is all this stuff?

edit: anyways, how bad would it be just to delete everything...

bad... don't delete any of it. Most of the things in there are for common web useage... forms... etc. If you aren't using any of them you shouldn't delete them because you may need them in the future.... deleting some of them will be detrimental so it's better to just leave them alone.

To be honest, I would prefer everyone NOT use the cgi bin. Cgi scripts get so messy!

Use PHP!

i only use the cgi-bin for the online perl script and the hit counter.those are really simple. like Kayla said, stick to PHP.
