Unhappy

Just wondering...what does it mean when they say "fees apply" for add-on domains? One other thing - On some hosting sites, there is a fee to register the domain name - so you have something like "whatever.net" instead of haveing to type "http://12.345.678.90", and then a monthly fee. What is the domain name registration fee for surpass? I can't seem to find it.

http://www.surpassdomains.com/ Look on the left side under 'other' and you'll see 'pricing'.

There is always a fee to register a domain name, but some hosting companies include it in the monthly hosting fee.

Basically, you have one hosting account with a domain name attached to it. You decide to get another domain name and you want to host it in your original account, but with different content. You contact your host and ask them to create an add-on domain for your new domain name, they usually charge you a one time fee. Your new domain will serve up pages within a folder of your original domain, but to anyone who looks at it from the outside it appears to be completely separate.

Registering a domain name is your responsibility. You should always register your domain name yourself whether at our domain site or any that you choose.
Never accept a "free domain" or pay for it monthly, stretched over the course of the year. If you do either of those, the hosting company essentially owns your domain name and that isn't right. A domain name is the sole property of the person who thought of the name and paid to register it.

Add on domains are just what fwwebs5 said.
You can point domain2.com to domain1.com/folder and it is like you host 2 websites in 1 plan.
Visitors to domain2.com will not know that it's really a folder in your account. They will see domain2.com in the address bar, no matter what they click, and never will they see "domain1.com/folder/filename.html".

Very true!

Something else to ponder. When choosing a Domain Name Registrar, research them and read the fine print. There are a few, not many though, who may attempt to register your domain name in thier company name and let you believe that is yours.

Some registrar's may make it difficult to tansfer your domain to another registrar, I've heard of one that requires a notorized request from you and charges a $25 fee for a transfer.

So be careful and as with everything read the fine print and all those agreements that pop up, before you sign.
