Is there a tutorial for setting up add-on domains? Because I could not find a sticky or a wiki
![]() If there is then disregard and please point me to it. If there isn't then please let's make one. Here's my attempt: 1. Make sure your own the new domain that you want to add on to your existing domain. 2. Change the name servers on your registrar to the same ones your currently use for your current (main) domain being hosted at Surpass. 3. After changing the name servers with your registrar go into cPanel of your main account and click on add-on domains. 4. Fill in the three fields as instructed. After doing the above cPanel will create a sub-folder of that name in your account that you can then access the same way that you access your main account. If you want to set up email addresses for that domain you can do so now in cPanel. Please note that it will take up to a day or two for propagation to occur so you may not be able to go directly to your new domain by typing in www.newdomain.com yet. You will be able to see it by typing in www.maindomain.com/newdomain right away. Eventually, after propagation has occurred you will be able to simply type in newdomain.com and go directly there and no one will know the difference. If I have any of the above facts wrong please let me know and if anyone has anything to add, by all means, please do so. And please sticky or wiki this so others will not have to search ![]()

Not really no. They have some instructions but they are not complete. Basically just telling you to fill in the blanks.

add-on domains file structure
Hi,
I had an add-on domain question that maybe someone experienced could answer. i have successfully added several domains to my webspace, and the redirecting works, but the one thing I don't know how to do is how to make the domain display correctly when I type it into a browser (that sentence was really awkward). For example, if i go to www.foo.com and that domain is stored in my main space at www.stuff.com/foo, www.foo.com will display as www.stuff.com/foo. I understand why this happens, but is there a way to make an add on domain always display as the actual add-on domain name - I host some websites for friends and they get confused when www.foo.com suddenly changes to www.stuff.com/foo. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance! |

Sounds like you are confusing add-on domains and subdomains. Add-on domains do display as foo.com. Subdomains display as maindomain.com/foo.
If you do an add-on domain correctly your visitors will have no idea that they are on an add-on domain. It will appear as though they are on a main domain.

Both are "subdirectories" within your public_html. All addon domains can be accessed as subdomains. It's just a little DNS magic that makes "mysubdomain.mydomain.com" appear to the world as "mydomain2.com". John

Let's take an example: You have a domain - zbootydoody.com If you create my.zbootydoody.com, that's a subdomain. It will be in the directory /my under the public_html for zbootydoody.com Now, you want an addon domain. You go out and buy lesboogers.com. You create lesboogers.com as an addon domain. It will appear as lesboogers.com, or, lesboogers.zbootydoody.com, or zbootydoody.com/lesboogers. On the server, it will be public_html/lesboogers But unless you tell everyone about those other methods, people are going to go where you tell them >> lesboogers.com But, if you have WHM (as a reseller) you can actually create a subdomain that is it's own CPANEL account! So, I could create, as a separate account with separate resources, "photos.zbootydoody.com". DNS is cool, eh?
