Cpanel help, can't log in!
I have been trying to work on my new blog all weekend and I'm getting frustrated. I can understand how to run programs but when it comes to the hard drive I'm totally lost. Below is a copy from my latest blog post today. If anyone can direct me to a geek site that can take me step by step to fix this problem I have that would be great.
If anyone can help me with this latest email from tech support I would be most grateful: Your router is blocking "ICMP Ping Requests" and that is why the trace route is failing. You should consult your router's documentation to see how to enable this again. As for your firewall situation, you are either being blocked by your router if it has a built in firewall or by Norton. Again, you would need to consult the software documentation to look into how to create firewall exceptions for cPanel. I can log in or open any other site that my little heart desires except my cpanel at SurpassHosting. I will be plastering this question around the blogs and message boards today as I am anxious to get www.diabeticride.com up and running! I am understanding it as I need to tell my computer to give a site more time to hook up together. Feel free to laugh at me and talk down to me, but just help! So yeah, I had a good weekend! Thank you! By the way I'm Sue and I'm new! ![]() You guys have some nice smilies! |

Hmm, when I hear (read) router and firewall I automatically think of my computer. You can check both of these things in your "my computer" files under Control Panel. Inside the firewall files, make sure to set your site's as exceptions and also your Cpanel.
As for the Cpanel problem, well have you tried logging in from yourdomainname.com/cpanel or the IPaddress/~username/cpanel? Hopefully this helps. =) |

I think I'm screwed. I can't get this to work, it isn't like a regular download. I need something very idiot proof. What a drag, I was so looking forward to my own domain.
Thanks anyway, Sue |

okay , exactly what happens when you try to login?
try going to this address and see what happens. http://www.diabeticride.com:2082/ Let me know exactly what the outcome is (login box, nothing, specific server error, etc)

This is what I get:
Server not found Firefox can't find the server at www.diabeticride.com. * Check the address for typing errors such as ww.example.com instead of www.example.com * If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection. * If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web. |

Ok. It sounds like you have a firewall on your PC that is blocking port 2082.
I assume you are working from home and not some sort of corporate or school network. Do you use software like, ZoneAlarm, McAffee Firewall, Norton Firewall? If so, try disabling the firewall for a short time, and then accessing cPanel again. Report back. :-)
