[Answered] Adding to my new host and FTP issues.

I am n00b, hear me query!

Just got a domain and hosting polan with Surpass recently, and am having a few issues. Here they are, listed for ease. Any and all help will be muchly appreciated!

1. I want to upload some stuff to allow my friends access to share - music, .rars and such. So I created a folder under public_html called mp3 and tried to upload a .rar file with some snatches of stuff I like for a friend - problem is I find that after I upload it, I go to the appropriate site (surely it's http://mydomain/mp3 ?) and there's nothing there! What am I failing?

2. I try to upload stuff by FTP using Filezilla, but it keeps timing out. Any ideas?

3. I'm supposed to be able to access cPanel by http://mydomain/cpanel, but for some reason it won't work. It only allows me access via an address that's http://insertipaddress/cpanel/ where 'insertipaddress is a long IP-style set of numbers. I'm with Surpass for both host and domain - any other ideas?

Thanks for any help!

Sounds like to me that your domain name isn't pointing to your hosting server. Have you changed the nameservers for your domain with the ones that were provided in your welcome email? If not, then this is probably the problem.

If you have domain hosting with Surpass, you will have to log into your surpassdomains.com account, click where it says manage domains and then click on where it says change nameservers or custom nameservers. Once there, change the default nameservers with the ones given to you within your welcome email and then save it! It can take a little while for your domain to finally point over to your server, so just wait it out a little bit.

Now, if you have done this and are experiencing these problems, I highly suggest submitting a ticket to the help desk. http://desk.surpasshosting.com/

Thanks for that. Done and done! Now just to wait and see if it works.

Any ideas on the other queries I had at all?

Well if it had to do with your domain's nameservers, then everything you had a problem with above should be fixed, since everything you were trying to access was with your domain name, and if your domain name doesn't work, nothing else can either. =)
