Outgoing email

Hi there,
I've just taken up a shared UK hosting deal and am very pleased so far. I'm hoping to move a few client's sites over to this server during the next couple of weeks and have been testing a few things out in preparation.

My question relates to outgoing email. I've used the conventional pop and smtp settings in my test account and am having trouble recieving these in hotmail. It's a problem I've had in the past on accounts without authenticated smtp and I've been mainly using 1and1 recently because their auth.smtp settings seem to mean clients outgoing messages don't end up in junk filters.

Can anyone suggest a solution? Incidentally I've tried the SSL settings provided in my account details but these don't work at all. Would I need to have an SSL certificate for the domain I'm sending from for this to work?

Hi,

If I've read your post correctly, you're experiencing problems with emails ending up in a junk mail filter after sending them from your server?

There could be a few things that may cause this. Be sure you're setting a reply to (or from) address when sending the mail, if it's just sent as the server or nobody it can land in the spam box.

The server IP could be blocked, which Abuse would need to contact them to remove the block.

We can also set up an SPF record to help prevent email spoofing (which I know hotmail really likes these to be set).

Open up a ticket on our help desk and we can help to investigate what may be happening. Include any specific error messages you may be receiving. https://desk.surpasshosting.com
