Directory Question

How do I block root access to a folder on my domain from being viewed in a web browser?

Example: I have a folder called pictures in my main directory where i store pictures. I made a html file called pictures, so to access this page the url would be www.mysite.com/pictures/pictures.html. Now if take away the pictures.html from the url so it read www.mysite.com/pictures/ my folder contents are visable to everyone (Index of pictures). I have had hosting before (with another company) where it wouldnt let people do that. But I see now anyone can view my hundreds of files without going to the .html page.

Is there a setting or something I need to do to not allow people to view all the files in a folder on the server?

Thanks

Open up cPanel and scroll down to the bottom, and find a icon named Index Manager. Click it. Find the folder you want, in this case pictures, click it's name (not the folder beside it).

There will be four options:
Default System Setting
No Indexes
Standard Indexing (text only)
Fancying Indexing (graphics)

The one in bold is the one you want.

Hope this helps

Thanks so much for thelp. Thats exactly what I was looking for. You would think this would be turned off by default.

Thanks Again for the quick reply.

after its up and running, man on man should that puppy be shut off.

That is why I was surprised to see it turned on by default. It's a leechers paradise.
