I just wanted to add my two cents worth here.

Quote:
1. how long do i have before i have to transfer my domain. one host had a condition that i must transfer within 14 days or my account will be cancelled. do you have any such rules? my current hosting account with another company is for another month
That is very fishy. Forcing you to transfer the domain to their servers just doesn't add up. I would avoid that company like the plague by any means necessary.

2. i have a huge amount of data/database that i have to transfer.. close to 900MB. i will have to transfer this via ftp. will i have any support geting the database to connect, etc.. even if i have to pay for it..
As teq said, we can assist with this, but the general rule of thumb is that 200-300 megs is the limit on the account size. Any large than that and we usually get timeouts when transferring your files from other hosts. You will indeed need to download the largest portion of your site and remove it from your current hosting server. You may even need to export all of your databases into .sql format and upload them to your site for us to import that way. Hard to tell without first trying the transfer, but once you get ready for that process, email supportsurpasshosting.com with the IP address of your old hosts server, the username, and password for that account. Also give us the IP address of the server you are hosted on with us that will be included in the welcome emails.

3. i have problems running cron jobs with my current host. its probably the way i set it up, but with cpanel.. things are pretty straight forward. thing is.. the cron job fails about 15% of the time. is this normal?
Hard to say here. If the underlying items you are trying to run aren't setup or failing themselves, that is something we may or may not be able to help you troubleshoot. If your old hosts cron jobs were failing because of server problems, you won't have that issue here.

4. Do you have any policies regarding the type of files we can store? im not going to put any kind of porn/adult material. i have a lot of real media.. (explains the 900MB)
Only restrictions on what you can have in your account are illegal files. Things relating to hacking, copyrighted materials that you don't own the copyright for, etc... Otherwise you can put whatever you desire there.

I'm starting to think you and scripta should get married.

I don't like scripta. In fact, I hate it. It totally defeats the purpose of learning something new. Instead if clicking a few buttons, learn php and read some tutorials and articles. It goes a long way. But that's just my opinion.

Well, it's pretty easy when you look at it from a general standpoint. But when it comes down to the advanced coding and scripting it get's tough. PHP, like many other programming languages, is just a series of if and else statements. Check out PHP.net's tutorial. Not the best, but it's something.

I'm 14, and I've known PHP for about 1 1/2 years. In the beginning it wasnt easy and I was constantly giving up, but now I guess you could call me an amatuer. Perseverence plays a big part in it.
