Most DNS changes take about 48 hours on average...

surpass should have assigned that when you specified your domain.

It still takes time, however... for all the NS records on the web to match up...

key: don't fiddle. Everytime you change something with the registrar, you push out the 'update window...'

Even though i'm a veteran computer user (and a ComSci Batchelor student) I'm new to DNS and really must get me some literature on the subject. The registrar (surpassdomain) has a feature called domain locking that i'm not familiar with. I know it has something to do with not changing the records but since the nameservers are correctly input the registrar I didn't think about it. I haven't touched the registrar information since I registered and yes, they input the DNS info correctly and automatically.

The information from dig (actually done by my ISP but I do have a linux box somewhere in the house and need to dust my UNIX knowledge a little) seems to indicate that the nameservers themselves don't have a record of arnists.com. This is nothing that has to propagate is it? A dig would reveal the real records.

Is there something I can do to insure the information is in there? Should I just email supportsurpasshosting.com and ask?

The domain lock means that you cannot transfer the domain to another registrar, until you email us and ask us to unlock it. It is a security precaution and verifies that you do want to move it. Having it locked, means that you aren't planning on moving it, basically.

Please do go ahead and email support. Maybe something is up with the DNS records on the server for your account, I am not familiar with that too much.

Let us know what happened, sometimes things do happen, and this post would be a good resource to come up in a search.

is surpassdomain the ORIGINAL registrar? If not, then it's the transfer process that's taking time...

Wouldn't it be best to just send a link to this thread since it documents the problem pretty well?
