Question .htaccess files questions.

Hi everybody. New here.

I am wondering something. Is there ANY way to see .htaccess files?
When browsing my public_html directory, the .htaccess files don't show up.
Logical. It's a Linux server.
But also a tad hard to keep track of the contents of the files, not to mention editing a file.

How do I check on the existance of the file / how do I edit the files?
(I use Total Commander to do my FTP work )

Thanks.

Hmm.. .with filezilla I have to check a box that says 'show hidden files' then hit 'refresh views'.

I think you can see them with Cpanel's file manager.

.htaccess files are designed to be hidden as well as all files beginning with a ".".

Most good FTP clients will allow you to see them in addition to your cPanel file manager.

Yes, thought so.
I guess Total Commander isn't a very advanced FTP client. I didn't find any 'show hidden files' option yet. (it's on for my Hard Drives, but it doesn't work when in FTP Client mode it seems)

Just use cpanel filemanager.. you can edit text files from there, or just show the contents.

You could probably also get them from a command line to your domain. You could get and put everything that way.

You DO know how to FTP from a command line don't you? :hiding:

Well not fully, but most of the commands that are available in TC are automatically translated to the FTP version of that command by TC...

Look for something in your software that allows you to enter extra LIST parameters. I am not familiar with Total Commander as I use FTP Voyager (love that one). If you can enter additional parameters, enter -al in that field.
