Sudden 500 Server Errors
I'm hoping I'm putting this in the right place. If not, I apologize.
I've been running Movable Type for well over a year now. I have several blogs under it with a handful of different authors. I've had no real problems with anything before. Last night, however, I started getting 500 Server Errors when saving things, changing major settings and adding decent sized posts. It seems to affect some blogs all the time and others never and I have no idea why. There were only two things changed recently that I can think of. One, I changed the layout of one of the weblogs. I can't imagine this is the problem. The second is that someone installed Magpie RSS to run a blogroll of sorts. Is it possible that this is doing something the server doesn't like when used in combination with Movable Type? I'm not entirely sure what to do. MT doesn't really offer much help and it seems like their forum topics are rarely replied to. I'm not sure if this is something on my end, the server's end or something wrong with something recently installed under my hosting. Any ideas would be appreciated. |

I doubt it's a resource issue... I'm not doing anything insane on there and I've actually removed a few things to see if that would help. No go.
I have been talking to the the Surpass technical support guys who have been a lot of help so far and they think it isn't a server issue, but rather something with MT. They directed me to a thread on Movable Type's forums of people having this issue (several with different hosts, apparently) and said to see if someone official posts in there with help (based on my experience that usually comes from someone named Shelly). We'll see what happens. |

If you guys are having problems with MT, there's not much they can do currently. "The problem was with DBI perl module. It has to be at 1.47 in order to work." according to someone on the Six Apart forums. A lot of places have recently upgraded that to 1.48.
Six Apart is aware of the problem and according to the forums are trying to do something about it. In the meantime, I just have to wait around. It seems ridiculous to have Surpass roll back that update for just this... but I have no idea if some of you are having problems with other software or not. |
