Restore a full Backup / cpmove file
Can I get access to the "restore a full backup / cpmove file" whm feature?
Most of the sites I host are mission critical, so I 've setup two servers with DNS failover to switch servers in case a cpu burns up, or any unforseen circumstances arise. However, my clients are making frequent changes to the site, so I'd like to mirror the servers monthly (if not weekly). I've been able to transfer my files from server to server using cpanel ftp backup features (a huge time saver), but it looks like all the options to restore an account off the site directory have been disabled? Any ideas? |

I assume you are on a reseller server right?
At any rate, I would open a ticket and inquire with support, only they would be able to enable it for you, and if they will not, you may want to consider moving to a VPS because you will have full control over WHM then. http://desk.surpasshosting.com

Figured out a reasonable way of doing it.
Use Cpanel to FTP full account from one server to the next, log into the second server and run a tar -zxvf filename.tar.gz then just move the files into their specified directories. Figured I'd post just incase someone else has the same problem. |

This is one thing I'd be interested in knowing, as I'm a reseller as well.
wwwc21, where do you run this tar -zxvf filename.tar.gz?

Patty, what you are interested in running is a command that you would use through Shell access. I honestly would recommend just submitting a support ticket to have them restore a cpmove file for you.
The only way you'll ever be able to use that command, if you really wanted to, on your reseller would be to inquire to support about shell access, paying the fee (I believe it's free for most servers, and some are $20) where you then will be prompted to fill out a form and provide proper photo identification for security/authentication purposes. After you receive access, you can download something like PuTTy to handle your shell logins/access, and from there you'll need to read up about command prompts to use and then you'll be able to run that tar command... |

^ Definitely, especially when you're new to it. It's great to learn the stuff, but if it isn't already available to you (eg: shell access) then support is the way to go. Make them work hard for their pay!
