Wow.. the girl that runs that blog acts like she's God's gift to the internet.
Usually when you're earning as little from something as you are from hosting, it's considered a hobby. In Australia I have to be earning over $75,000 before I have to pay GST. However, I do have to declare all of my adsense income (as I'm international, I'm not taxed by google) and pay tax on it if required, depending on how much I earned that year.

Lol.. it wouldn't really bother me. I think there are too many people out there that take their internet presence just a tad too seriously. It's sad when people have nothing better to do than sit around and bitch at people they'll never meet

i actually claim my income from my hosting. when i started reselling, i didnt look at it as an income generating business. i have tended to use the money i earn to upgrade for my existing customers. i cater to a small local clientelle and a few american clients. i do write off my expenditure for hosting as advertising as i host my business(painting) website on my server and the income from it is rather incidental. i am hoping to see my accountant in the next week and am going to bring up my purchase of a colo... im not sure if that can be written off for the year or if it has to be prorated over 3.
i have always had visions of promoting the webhosting when i get the time but my other interests dont give me much time to do that. truthfully, if you did set it up as a true business, registered and the like..you could probably make it in the red with appropriate write offs.

thanks everyone for your help!
i think as caseylee said its considered a hobby, thats what i consider it as, but i just wanted to check - also on the inland revenue (UK Tax Company) it says you don't have to pay taxes untill your earning way over £5,000 a year, and thats not me ![]() and caseylee, yeah Jem is quite a popular internet blogger but i agree with roxy if anyone heard you say that you'd be next on her pants award list and next to be blogged about ![]() and as for gods gift to the internet, isn't that surpass? ![]()

Danny, Caselylee's site is TOO CUTE to be "pants-ed". Anyways, I think Jem has a weakness for pixel art, since she does run Quilting-Bee and I'm sure she'd squee with joy with Caseylee's awesome pixel work. lol.
Other then that Jem really isn't ALL that popular if you really look at those who view her site. Most of the commenters are still in the 12-17 age ranges and are just starting out with their "blogs". Those that are older, like Vera and co. all run in the same circle, (you'll see this by going to their links page and seeing basically all the same links) Now it would be pretty impressive if she were popular with the REAL big wigs of internet blogging, who have been in the biz since the internet was CREATED...lol, I'm exaggerating a bit. But seriously, people like her blog because she can sometimes be cruel yet witty, and people (tweens) are attracted to that, also she has some good scripts and PHP blogs, so that's a plus. But that's all. Other then that, her site is like every other "witty" person out there. I'm not ragging on Jem now, I just tell it how I see it. |

Lol.. do you mean the list of sites on my horribly inactive blog? Yeah, they're all mine.
I really need to get in the swing of this blogging thing. I can never be bothered.
