This is my website's third "real" host (as in not on a free site that has nothing to offer. Yes, my site has grown from a crappy fansite to something that looks a little more professional.)

My first real host I was getting for free, but had crappy support and someone manged to cause the servers to go down for almost three weeks.

My second real host, to be honest, was great. However they were geared more towards small business (whereas I was running a personal site) and when I saw the specs for surpass (at the time it was $6 for 6 GB space and 600 GB b/w) and compared it to mine ($10 for 500 MB space and 30 GB b/w) I just had to switch.

Well the main reason for leaving my previous host is that they were incredibly unreliable. It turned out that they had over 1500 domains hosted on the shared server that i was on. This resulted in extremely slow response times for the site and additionally, it took ages for the database server to respond.

In the end i was just sick of the service and decided it was time to find a better one

I've had a total of four hosts in the past four years. My first host was a friend of mine that had a reseller, when I started hogging his resources I decided to get my own reseller.

I went to an Australian company thinking that it would be easier for me if I ever required support, because they had phone support and it wouldn't be an international call. Thus began a headache that lasted several years, I am still in the process of moving all of my sites from there to surpass.

One particular incident (among many) was when the server that I was hosted on went down for almost three weeks. Phone calls and tickets went unanswered and when I posted a thread complaining about the lack of support in their community forum they deleted both the thread and my forum account.

My websites eventually reappeared after three weeks. A couple were fine, most were backdated 6 months and others had disappeared entirely. It was my first hosting account and I assumed that the hosting company were responsible for creating backups, therefore I had none myself. I lost 6 months worth of forum data, entire site renovations and databases. Basically, 6 months of my hard work.

There was no explanation, nothing. No apology, no explanation, no reimbursement for almost a month of downtime. And tickets regarding it remained unanswered.

I signed up with Elixant next, who were fantastic. Unfortunately as soon as I had my last website all transfered over and ready to go they announced that they were closing.

After a month of looking through hosting services, determined not to make the same mistakes again, I came across Surpass. It's been a few months now and I think I've found my hosting-home. There have been a couple of bumps, a DNS problem and a disappearing database, but these were handled efficiently. I've come to realise that when it comes to hosting there is no perfect host utopia with 100% uptime and zero problems. Things are bound to go wrong some of the time. What makes a hosting company perfect is their staff and the way in which they respond to their customers.

You guys were my first and my last! I'm always looking at other hosting companies and I swear I have YET to find one that compares to Surpass. Some companies have lower prices but cheaper specs, others have about the same space, but fewer features, no one can compare to the awesomeness of Surpass! I'm just glad and honored to be apart of the team now! =)

Thumbs up

Our previous Hosting company was Site5. Their support got worse everyday. Their support was too slow, unfriendly and poor. The uptimes of the servers was bad. So we moved to Hostdime and after to Surpasshosting. We chose you because you provide more features(more space/bandwith, RVSkin(we was need it for multiple language support), Fantastico... etc) with affordable prices. And we glad from you. Because your support is fast and friendly. The uptime of the servers generally good. Hostdime and Surpasshosting services are very similar. If you don't need phone support and your budget low when you can choose Surpasshosting.

the reason i moved to surpass is a bit different than most of the posts i have read here. Most comment on poor service, response and downtime. I had previously hosted a few sites with an australian company with great numbers and cost but as my web demands increased, their hosting of 5 domains upgrade didnt give me the FLEXIBILITY that i found with my initial reseller bronze package that i got with surpass. I know this has become almost commonplace now with linux servers but at the time it was a great solution for me. That flexibility has continued throughout as i gradually increase my website needs without the need to look elsewhere.
