What made you leave your previous host?

Instead of asking what kind of programs or features you want, what are things that have happened with other hosts that have resulted in you ending up at Surpass? This is the other end of the spectrum we're currently discussing behind the scenes at Surpass.

Many of you have already answered these questions in testimonials or other threads, but if you haven't talked about this yet and have anything to offer, please do. Your thoughts and comments are much appreciated.

I sent a ticket to Surpass's abuse department (hi Kayla) one day and was amazed at the swift response. The rest is, as they say, history.

1) unreliable email
2) slow response to tickets
3) lack of a good forum, wiki, or other FAQ

Surpass has done well in all 3 of these reasons why I left.

Nothing against previous host I had as they had excellent service, but they had no control panel(cPanel, not even Plesk, etc.), they set up databases by calling them, no control.

With me cancelling Surpass a couple of times and with all my moving around different hosts, I always come back to Surpass.

There is going to be no more cancelling and moving, simply staying put.

They did not respond to support tickets or their support forum.

The host I had before that had sever down times and server issues but worse than that was that if a customer posted about it in the publicly viewable support forum they deleted those negative posts. This gave the impression to any non-customer viewing those forums that everything was great. Of course customers went to other forums on the internet that the host had no control over and told what was happening there. So I left because if my negative posts were being removed who elses were being removed too?

So far I have come to see with Surpass that if you have a problem they answer it right away. And they do leave negative posts in their forums so what you see is what you get. If anyone looks at the negative posts that are here it is plain to see that it is usually the customers fault. I tend to find that negative posts in a forum actually make the company look better, most of the time.

My previous host was a reseller of Surpass, but I didn't want to drain her.

The host before had slow support, didn't want to help moving to another server when the one I was one was constantly having problems, and too expensive for what they offerd.

Surpass was technically the original host for 2 of the sites I've had hosted here. One site I brought here was from a host that had continual problems. It was one of those friend-of-a-friend connections that went bad by default. Surpass was actually really helpful in moving that site over. I didn't have a credit card at the time and needed an add-on domain. Won't say who, but a generous Surstaffer contacted me about it.

At the moment I actually have hosting with 3 different hosts. I'll move back to 2 sometime in January pending how a trial at one host goes. There's kind of a fourth (Amazon's EC2), but I doubt I'll end up using it unless I stumble across a really big project.

I only left my previous host because I didn't have enough of what I needed. Nothing bad against them, they had awesome uptime and support as well
