I'm a bit frustrated here
After reading through this thread I thought hey maybe I'll try and install WPMU on my domain.
Every thing went smooth as glass. I contacted support about adding wildcard domains and eventually was told I could do this on my own by going to the cpanel and adding a subdomain as *.outcaststudios.com Which I did but it didn't solve the problem. Now all my subdomains redirect to my home page. Support told me this was how the wildcard domains were supposed to work and that I may need to check with the software and something about the hta access file? Anyway this is what's happening right now with it If you go to this url test.outcaststudios.com then it redirects to my home page If you go to this url test.outcaststudios.com/index.php then it goes to the blog like it should. Anyone have any suggestions? Last edited by Goff; October 26th, 2008 at 2:01 AM.. |

All I did was drag/drop all the WPMU files into the /clubs.socabinet.com/ folder. It's a blank page. I haven't even installed it yet.. ![]() |

There was no index.html file included with the WPMU installation. Just to confirm, I'm downloading WPMU from here:
WordPress MU Download Anyone able to install it, as-is, directly onto a Surpass Hosting shared account? |

Yeah to be clear: I had a web-site at the domain that I loaded WPMU on. So my index.html page was my home page that I had to delete so that the WPMU would then send the subdomain.url.com blog to the index.php instead of MY index.html file.
I was able to install it on a shared account. I had to add the subdomain *.url.com in my cpanel. I had contacted support about enabling the wildcard dns and after a couple of weeks of problems becuase of my index.html file I'm not sure if support actually had to do anything or not. They never told me they changed anything just told me to add that *.url.com in my cpanel/subdomains. |

Thx for the quick response Kayla.
Unfortunately something's not working as it should, quite possibly I'm missing something due to lack of experience, but the great guys & gals from support are on it so I've got no doubt it will be resolved soon. ![]() |

Bump!
Okies, I'm going mildly insane trying to get this to work. (You'd think with all my years of WP experience this wouldn't be so hard, but it is.) So far as I can tell I've done everything right. WPMU is installed properly - and if I set it up to use subfolders it works just fine. But it won't create a blog with a subdomain. (Well, it does, but I get a 404.) I contacted support and they enabled the wildcard domains. But I still get a 404 (albeit now it's a cPanel designed 404, but not really an improvement). Help please! (I have a ticket open regarding this, btw: FEC-109001.) |
