[Reseller] Suspending and Terminating an Account in WHM
In this tutorial I will show you how to both suspend and terminate an account in WHM. I will also tell you what the difference between the two is.
When suspending an account, the reason is usually for non-payment or abuse of resources. Most of the time, the client wants to get their site back up and are willing to pay what they owe or take out the offending script/resource that is abusing the limits. When this happens, you are easily able to unsuspended the account, knowing that the client's files and folders are still intact and nothing has changed. Now as for termination, it is for a whole different reason. Say you have a client who has not paid for over a year and from no contact isn't going to in the near future, you obviously do not want said client's files eating up space on your server, so what do you do? You terminate the account, by doing this you are deleting every single thing about this person account. Sounds, nasty neh? But it needs to be done sometimes to ensure that your server doesn't run up the space, bandwidth, or resources. Suspending/Un-suspending an Account On the left hand menu bar, scroll down until you see the category named "Account Functions". Click on the "Suspend/Unsuspend an Account" link. ![]() When the page loads on the right hand side, you will notice a list of all the accounts and their users that were created on your account. click on the domain or user that you need to suspend. Before clicking the suspend button, there is an input field at the bottom that says "reason: (if suspending)". This is a great help to remember why you suspended the account in the first place, so type it out and then click on the suspend button above. ![]() The next page is an overview of everything you have just suspended on the account. It will show how it is just locking the areas to which the client could access. If you notice, nothing is being deleted. ![]() Done! You have just suspending an account. Now we will move onto unsuspending an account. Now, there are actually two ways for you to do this. One of them being it to click on the "suspend/unsuspend an account" link under "account functions". Once there you will see, like above, a list of all account created on your server. The suspended account/user will be highlighted in red. Click on the one you'd like to unsuspend. ![]() The overview page will show up showing you that the account is active again. ![]() The second way is to click in the "List Suspended Accounts" link under the "Account Information" category. ![]() You'll then see a list (if you have a few) of suspended accounts on your server. Each will show the domain, username, reason why the account was suspended, etc. This helps you figure out if it is time to terminate the account or not too. If not you can simply click on the unsuspend button and all done! You will then be taken to the overview page as seen above. Terminating an Account Now lets go through on how to terminate or delete an account. With WHM it is very simple and only takes a few clicks. First, click on the link in the left hand menu that says "Terminate an Account". It should be the second to last link in the "Account Functions" category. ![]() You will see two boxes in the left hand side filled with all of the account you have created and when you click on one of them, the account's information will show up on the right hand side, helping you figure out which account you need to delete. Once you click on the accounts name or user, click on the terminate button at the bottom. ![]() That's all, you will then be taken to the overview page showing all that has been deleted and cleaned out. ![]() Good luck! |
