[Reseller] Enabling Demo Mode in WHM

Important Please Read!: If you currently do not have this feature in your WHM, you are more then welcome to request it by sending in a ticket to the help desk. http://desk.surpasshosting.com/ . Thank you

You're probably wondering what Demo Mode in WHM is, and well that is what I 'm here to answer for you. This is a neat feature for when you want potential clients to try out cPanel before they purchase hosting with you. Yup, Demo mode is probably exactly what you were thinking from the start,

enabling a cPanel Demo for potential clients/viewers to your site.

How do I enable it?

When you log into WHM, go to "create an account" under the "account functions" category. Where it says domain name, you will create a "subdomain" for the demo page. (ex. demo.domain.com, where domain.com is YOUR domain name) Remember to save the username and password to something easy like demo for the user and demo123 for the pass, so the visitor can easily log into the demo cPanel. (Of course, sometimes other users on your servers may already have an active account using the username "demo", so it will not work twice.)

Once the account is created, look for the link "disable or enable Demo Mode" under the "account functions" category.

On that page, you will notice a list of accounts on your server, click on the one you just created and click modify at the bottom.

You'll be taken to a page where it says that demo mode is currently disabled. Be sure to click on the enable button to the right of that sentence. You're then taken to the overview page telling you the changes made.

Now to test it out. Go to the subdomain your just created, remember to add cpanel to the end. (ex. demo.domain.com/cpanel) and with the logins you set, log into the cPanel.

To make sure that Demo mode is working correctly, click on any link where you will have to create something, such as subdomains. When you write in a word and then click create you are brought to page that says "there was a problem creating the sub-domain - show details" Click on show details and a small grey box will appear stating "this feature cannot be used in demo mode".

Kayla just explained to me that in the past there was a security flaw within it where people could send emails from the demo, but all is fixed now and if you would like for this feature to be enabled on your WHM, to please send in a request in the help desk. Thank you!

not working for me. I go to create an account and user and I always get this error regardless what the username and password is.

Account Creation Status: failed (Sorry that username (demo) is taken. Check /etc/passwd)

Its probably because someone on your server already has the username "Demo" in use, and one username cannot be used twice on the same server.

You can call it anything you want really...Ddemo, thedemo, cpaneldemo. The possibilities are endless. =)

Very sorry about that, the images are back up. I accidentally moved the folder into another folder that wasn't supposed to. All is well now. Screenshots are shown above. =) If you have a reseller account or higher, then you should. If not, you can ask for it by submitting a ticket to the help desk!
