.htaccess for add-on domains

Maybe I'm just not doing it right, but I was unable to edit the .htaccess for an add-on domain for one of my clients via cPanel. I was trying to add in some RewriteRules for him, and when I selected the file, I could change permissions, etc, but the Edit File link was missing. I didn't look too deeply into it, but I was able to add the RewriteRules by doing this:

Code:
RewriteRule ^ryan/shortcut$ files/site/execute.php
Where "ryan" is the name of the directory that is in public_html, which is the root directory for the add-on domain with the inaccessible .htaccess file.

So hopefully if there isn't an easier better way to do this, it might actually help someone
