Reseller 101

A reseller account can be seen as starting your very own hosting company. There is a main reseller domain that manages all the clients underneath, who are known as "resold" clients.

Main reseller domains can create packages that contain specifications for space and bandwidth, and assign them to domains that are underneath it. Resold clients also have access to cPanel which can be restricted by the main reseller domain.

WHM
As a Reseller, you are provided with access to WHM. While your end user will utilize cPanel as their website management system, WHM is your Reseller system for the management of several cPanel accounts. Upon your initial login, it is advised that you create one or more "Packages" using the "Add Packages" function. Here, you will create a hosting package, assigning bandwidth, disk space, and all other account quotas.

Once a Package has been created, you can use the function "Create a New Account" and assign a package to the newly created account. Please note that a package must first exist before an account can be created.

After the above mentioned steps, you will have successfully created a cPanel account for your resold client. cPanel accounts are unable to modify their DNS zones. Likewise, Reseller accounts are created without this feature though CAN be enabled upon request. If you should wish to have access to modify your DNS zones (at your own risk!), simply open a Support ticket at https://desk.surpasshosting.com to request this modification.

By default, our Reseller plans are given a courtesy allotment of 5 GB of Disk Space and 10 GB of Bandwidth for the main account. This is provided to you as a courtesy and is not taken out of your main resold resources. Under this configuration, your account is owned by root. Because of this, you are unable to see your main account listed in WHM as this account is not owned by you--it is owned by root (or administrator of the server). This account still has cPanel access, and has all of the standard server rights.

If you should need more space, or wish to alter this configuration, we can switch the main account ownership to yourself. Doing so will forfeit the courtesy allotment, and you will be free to use a portion or all of your Reseller space for your main account, as you should see fit. If you would like this change made to your account, please let us know and we will process this request. Please note there will be no changes to the account that would affect its uptime as this is just a configuration change.

Branding
While we highly value our business partnership with our Reseller clients, we understand that some may need their business endeavour to be transparent. cPanel offers a solution for this need in the form of Branding. Here, you can "brand" cPanel to have a custom header. For instance, you could create a branded banner and upload it via WHM. This banner will appear at the top of your resold clients' cPanel accounts showing "Joe's Hosting!" with a custom logo.

Billing - WHMCS
Ok, great. So you've spent time creating cPanel accounts, and getting acquainted with WHM on your own. But how do you bill your clients? While you are free to choose your method of billing management, here at Surpass we provide you with a free billing solution known as WHMCS. WHMCS (or WHM Complete Solution) gives you the freedom to charge your clients as you wish, and the option of processing payments via credit card or PayPal. While we provide you with your free WHMCS license, please note that we do not directly support WHMCS. For any support inquiries regarding this 3rd party software, please contact their support team directly via WHMCS - The Complete Client Management, Billing & Support System.

Moving your data
Need help transferring an account to your Reseller plan? Just ask! For new clients, we can assist in the migration of your data to your new Surpass Reseller plan for no additional charge. There may be a nominal data transfer fee for current clients, depending on the size of the data and number of cPanel accounts. Please note that we are only able to transfer cPanel accounts. If your current host utilizes a hosting interface other than cPanel you will need to manually upload your data via an ftp client. For the main domain on an account, all site data must reside in the "public_html" folder. Don't forget your databases! To request assistance with this, please open a Support ticket with our help desk at https://desk.surpasshosting.com.
